The Elephant and the Bird

Lias (7 years old, Ōtepoti, Dunedin) has joined his older siblings at many strikes for the climate and actions. After writing a postcard to Grant Robertson to ask for funding for his school to transition away from fossil fuel boilers, he was inspired to create this artwork.

 

 

Lias loves animals and is worried about further species becoming extinct. In his artwork he captured both an elephant, which he recently learned are hunted for their tusks because of human greed, and a bird symbolising one of the many birds in Aotearoa that are threatened as we haven’t protected the environment.
