DESCRIPTION:Our 350 Aotearoa local election team want to show our communities that they don’t have to put up with hateful politics and politicians. We are connecting with the 350.org global ‘Draw the Line’ days of action happening 19 – 21 September to bring actions to a town or city near you. \nThis webinar will explain the big issues this local election\, and how you can plan a Draw the Line action in your local area.  \nExtra context  \nAfter continuous pressure from clued up staff\, councillors\, and community members\, councils around the country had changed their narratives about climate change from apprehension and doubt\, to instead a steady determination that local government can and should be taking a leading role in supporting community climate action.  \nHowever\, following the lead from this current toxic central government\, some local council candidates would like to wipe out all that progress in the name of “getting back to basics”. \nTo those candidates\, “getting back to basics” means that councils should only do pipes\, roads\, and waste. But councils have always delivered on community good through creating ways for residents to thrive. \nWe need council candidates who will continue support for our: \n\nlocal public and active transport networks\, such as buses\, trains\, cycleways\, and walking trails\,\nfood banks and kai rescue organisations who keep food waste out of landfills\, saving councils money and reducing climate pollution\,\ninitiatives that focus on rent affordability and healthy homes\,\ncultural festivals\, community services\, libraries\, and parks.\n\n  \nThese are the basics we need.
