Go Fossil Free the banks challenge

New Zealanders need to have a bank we can trust. We need a Fossil Free Bank that guarantees, through investment and lending policies, a complete cut of corporate ties with the fossil fuel industry.

Take Action

We’re challenging our New Zealand-owned banks, Kiwibank, TSB, and the Cooperative Bank to step up and Go Fossil Free! We know our banks play a huge role in keeping the fossil fuel industry afloat, with Australian-owned banks like ANZ loaning billions every year to oil, gas and coal projects.

But right now, we’re focused on Kiwibank, TSB, and the Cooperative Bank because these banks are the most likely to be the first to Go Fossil Free, with no current investments in fossil fuels they need to stand up and make a policy ensuring they never will!

We need a good alternative, we need our banks to guarantee they will not put a cent more of our money toward fueling the climate crisis. This means making a policy which says they will never invest in, or loan to fossil fuel companies.

Our savings need to go towards a safe and fair future, built on 100% renewable energy for all. We need to raise our voices and let our banks know that it’s no longer acceptable to be on the fence about climate change.
